Loves & Hates of August!

Hello, seeing as everyone does monthly favourites, I thought I’d do hits & misses if you like, so you know what I would and wouldn’t purchase. I do have to stress that this is personal opinion and I do recommend you try these products out in store as well as listening to what I have to say, who knows, we could be complete opposites and you could love what I hate!  So without further ado, here are the good bits!

Loves:

Chanel Foundation! I have pro & matte Lumiere and I love them both, I would regard Pro Lumiere as a medium coverage foundation and Matte Lumiere as full coverage. I like them both for different reasons. I have reasonably good skin, therefore most of the time I don’t need a full coverage foundation, well any foundation, but you know what us girls are like, we love to put make up on, so I like to wear pro lumiere on good skin days, or throughout drier days as it’s got a moisturising element too it and makes my skin look radiant. On those days where my skin has decided to rebel against me and Pro, I like to use Matte Lumiere, I think that the fuller coverage means that I don’t have to use a concealer which is good because I don’t like using concealer any way! Both of these foundations retail at £33, expensive, maybe! But you definitely get what you pay for and after using both I could never go back to drug store foundations, simply because the standards are just so different!

MAC eye shadows! Yes, I know everyone goes on about them, but I only have 8, I’m not that crazy about them, I just love these three I’m talking to you about which are Satin Taupe, Club and Scene, all quite different colours, but they all compliment blue eyes really well (I’m sure they’d look lovely on all other eye colours too!) I love Satin Taupe because I think it’s got a very glamorous feel to it and looks great with a little bit of black smudged into the outer corner, some false lashes and you’re good to go on a big night out! I love Club because it’s a dual chrome, if you’re not familiar with this term it means that it has dual (two) properties, which are that it’s base colour is an earthy red/brown with a shot of turquoise shimmer shot through it, it’s not too shimmery don’t worry, it does wonders for my eye colour and is my go-to eye shadow. And finally Scene, I’ve had this colour for over a year, and I’ve hit pan, how sad L I think that the pay-off is great, it’s a purple toned grey, I originally bought it for my prom to make my lash line a little smoky, and I’ve never looked back, it’s such a versatile colour and it’s completely matte which is perfect for mature skin.

Topshop Lipstick in Brighton Rock- Now, I’m not one for a nude lip, but this might put some people off, when I say hot pink, I mean HOT! It’s an absolutely gorgeous matte finish lipstick in the brightest hot pink I’ve ever seen,  it also somehow manages to flatter my eye colour even though it’s on my lips, which is always a bonus. I’d say this was a blue toned pink, and I think it would look great on every skin tone, I’ll recommend this lipstick until I’m blue in the face.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lip-gloss in Pink Pop, I couldn’t love this anymore, and if I love a lip-gloss that’s saying something as 9 times out of 10 I hate lip glosses, I don’t find them flattering and they bug me because they’re sticky, this is so different, it’s like having a shiny lip balm on I love the subtle colour you get from it and I think it would look gorgeous on fair skin tones!

L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes, we all know I’m not the sort of person that can live without mascara, because frankly I look like a twit without it, but this mascara is out of this world, it gives you volume, and length but at the same time defines your lashes, so you don’t end up with that unflattering clumpy look, it almost makes your lashes look fake it makes them that long! I have it in the extra black and it really is jet black, there is nothing worse than off-black mascara’s.

Maxfactor False Lash Effect mascara, yes I know I’ve already mentioned a mascara, but if I’m being honest this is another product I’m obsessed with and love, so it has to go on here! I love how full this makes my lashes, and the adverts aren’t kidding when they say its false lash effect, it is buildable mascara, so it can give you a natural defined but full look or it can build up your lashes so they look like you’ve got some individual falsies hiding in there, but shh don’t tell anyone!

Lush Twilight Bath Bomb- I for one, have trouble sleeping usually, I think my brain is just too active or something, I always seem to have energy before I go to sleep, so I need something to calm me down and relax me to the maximum, ENTER TWILIGHT, this thing makes me feel like I’ve taken sleeping tablets, seriously, it’s amazing it has all those gorgeous scents, that make you want to just curl up in bed and sleep for hours upon end. I hate the smell of lavender, so it’s nice to know that some other scents can chill you out just as much!
Jimmy Choo, Original Eau Du Parfum, I got sent a sample of this and I’m not kidding I can’t stop smelling it, it is like sweet but floral at the same time, with like a vanilla/musk base note? I can’t work it out, but it is absolutely gorgeous, and I will TOTALLY be purchasing this, I’ll research into where you can get it and will definitely add the link at the bottom!

Orly Black Out! Nail Polish let it be known that I have an absolutely massive nail polish collection, I don’t know why, I don’t remember purchasing so many nail polishes, but it’s become apparent I have a silly amount of nail polishes, and I absolutely love black nail polishes, I’m not hot on glittery nail polishes but they do a glittery version which is called Goth. It lasts for at least a week, it’s easy to apply and the formula is amazing, you will need 2-3 coats mind, use a base and top coat also for maximum strength and to make it last longer!

Boots Natural Collection Vanilla Body Spray- alright, most of the people I know think it’s odd to love the smell of vanilla as much as I do, I have an air freshener in my room which smells like vanilla, I’ve a body spray, dry shampoo’s, you get the drift, so when I saw boots selling this body spray about a year ago, I’ve bought it ever since, it’s £2.03 I believe which is a bargain especially if you don’t want to spend a silly amount on perfume, because let’s face it as students, not all of us have hundreds of pounds to spend on perfume. It lasts all day long, and if you want to pop it in your handbag you could, as it’s in a plastic container, no chance of breaking in your bag, I don’t find it leaks either!

Chanel Chance Eau Tendre Perfume! I cannot explain my love for this perfume. No seriously, if it was a person, I’d stalk it. It smells amazing, I cannot compare it to any other perfume, it doesn’t smell like any of the other Chanel fragrances it’s fresh, but sweet at the same time, it’s just amazing. I do have to say that it doesn’t last that long on my skin though, which means I get through a lot of it and at £66 that’s not fun! It happens to be one of those products that I have to re-purchase too, so you can see it’s an expensive habit!

All right so those are all my products that I love! If you want any more information on them, please do not hesitate to ask! Now... here are some of the products that disappointed me greatly and unfortunately some of them are by my favourite brands, luckily there aren’t that many, so check these ones out!

Lush Cupcake Face Mask, right- I love the idea of this face mask, I love the packaging, I even love the company, but then I open it, and the smell hits me, I look down and it doesn’t even look nice, but I persist with it, because it says it’s good for your skin, and everyone wants nice skin, right? It broke me out, it made me itch, it smelt so strong I almost passed out and I just didn’t like the consistency. I’d not recommend this product, though I do like some of the other Lush face masks, such a shame I so wanted to like this one, though you might like it, it could just be that I have over-sensitive senses!

Madara Moonflower Tinting Fluid- okay before I go on, personal note to the company, please smell your products before finally packaging them, all right? It’ll benefit you in the long run, I promise. I wanted to like this product so much, the packaging was nice, the product inside looked good on my skin, but my gosh, the smell is absolutely nasty, I can’t even explain it! The closest thing I could link it too, would be weeds in your garden. If I purchased this (I was sent it) I would have been extremely unhappy with it, because I don’t like the smell of it, and the packaging was battered when I received it, sorry but this receives a big thumbs down!

Claire’s Accessories Crackle Nail Polishes, okay there isn’t much positive I can write about these, they chip easily, they don’t crack properly, they’re not very pigmented and the bottles aren’t even that nice. I received them as a gift from a friend (the thought was there) but I’ve never seen the fascination with these crackle nail polishes, why would you paint your nails nicely to then go and mess them up by putting a messy topcoat on? If you like them then cool, but I personally cannot stand them.

Shimmery E/S by Accessorize, again a gift to me from a friend, but they are so shimmery they look awful on your eyes, it doesn’t matter how flawless your skin is, etc they still look horrible which is a shame because in the palette they look absolutely beautiful, I’d stick to beauty brands to be honest.

Hope this has been helpful! Love, hugs & happiness.
Hollie xxxx
